James was born in 1946 in Birmingham, England. His keen interest in art led him to study at the Green Lane Derby Art College, following which he worked in graphics. Music was a powerful influence on James and he later toured Europe playing in rock bands while sketching the places he visited These included Germany at the same time as the Beatles.
A natural artistic flair and creativity have contributed to James becoming a most respected landscape artist in the UK. His interpretations of the high Victorian school echo a British style of painting that has never lost its popularity.
Working both in oils and watercolours, he adds a fresh dimension to his pictures with skilful use of light and colour. His practice of carrying our preliminary sketches on location adds a natural form of realism to his landscapes.
Exhibiting in major galleries throughout the UK and overseas has brought James's work to a wide and appreciative audience. His paintings are in much demand among collectors, as in deed are his limited edition prints.
